Unbecoming of a success

What I feared is happening. India lost once again to Britain in the Olympic qualifier decider match, which means that India is not qualified for the Olympics hockey. Following this, an able coach joachim Carvlho has resigned from his position. All the great works that are done for rebuilding a pathetic team into a powerful one, went into shambles.

India played really well in all earlier matches, but faltered in the finals. The young hockey players should be moulded further to be better prepared for crunch situations. The conducive environment should be in place to establish an effective system of training.

But, all is not lost. Let us put Olympics into the back of our mind. There are other important tourneys to propel our hockey team to the top. For that, we need to be patient at this moment of disappointment.

If Indian hockey management has a real urge for encouraging the team, it has to retain Carvalho as its team coach. He should be given free hand despite any possible negative results in future. If it is to take measures for our failure to make into olympics is inevitable, then the measures should be in changing the attitude of our management towards supporting this sport.

Let us not allow Government or IHF killing our rejuvenated Hockey team in the name of revamping the Team. Let us pray that our pastmaster coach Carvalho stays with the team.
